Social Media Marketing Trends You Should Not Ignore

Social Media

Social media marketing is only as successful as the combination of effective strategies. If you don’t have the right combination, it will reduce traffic from your targeted customers and not attract them. You can improve your profits by focusing on current trends when designing social media strategies, such as social media optimization. This will allow you to use social networking sites for marketing effectively and increase your profits. Forbes published these recent trends based on their 2013 Social Media Marketing Industry Report.

Low usage of social bookmarking sites

Research reports show that social bookmarking sites have been used less than 26 percent of the time in 2011, dropping to 10%. This is a clear indication of the decline in bookmarking sites. Although sites like Reddit, Reddit, Twitter, and Pinterest remain popular with marketers, the majority of websites (e.g. DIGG, Friendfeed) are almost dead. In the current situation, it is dangerous to blindly trust bookmarking sites for marketing purposes. Instead, look for the most popular sites and bookmark them carefully.

Daily Deal Sites Decline

Daily deals, or simply daily offers of deals, are considered a powerful way of attracting targeted customers. According to the research report, around 80 percent of marketers don’t want to use the most popular daily deals sites like Groupon and Living Social in their campaigns shortly.

People now focus more on the substantial returns they get from their purchases over time. It is better to use social media sites for long-term marketing goals than for daily ones.

Top Social Media Campaigns Sites

Social media marketing is a way for marketers to use social media to market their products and services. Only if the site is popular with customers will the campaigns be successful.

According to the research report, marketers who spend more time on social media marketing than six hours per week are more likely to use Google+, YouTube, and Pinterest for their campaigns. A majority of marketers with five years or more of experience prefer LinkedIn to the 70% of marketers with less than five years. From 24 percent in 2011, forum marketing is down to 16 percent this time.

A little less than 69 percent of marketers plan to increase their campaigns via Twitter, but it’s still a significant increase from last year’s 67 percent. For launching campaigns, younger marketers prefer Instagram and photo-sharing sites like Instagram more than older marketers. 62% voted to blog the most useful platform to master, followed by Google + (61%), and Facebook (59%).

Trends for B2C and Bi-B Marketers

B2C (Business to Consumer) marketers use Facebook at a higher 67% rate than other platforms. For Business to Business (B2B), marketers, Facebook, and LinkedIn share a majority of 29%. Below is a pie chart that shows usage statistics for each platform about B2C marketers and B2B.

B2B marketers have a wider range of platforms than B2C marketers. They use a lot of YouTube and don’t blog as much.

B2B and B2C marketers should encourage blogs. They are the most widely used social media platform. YouTube is the second most popular search engine. You can take advantage of its benefits by creating low-cost videos. Low-cost YouTube videos have helped brands like Blentec and Orabrush (B2C Company).

SlideShare, owned by LinkedIn, is an option for B2B marketers who are increasingly using LinkedIn. This social media entity is great for generating leads and promoting B2B businesses.

There are fewer online check-ins

According to research reports, Foursquare has seen a decline in the usage of geolocation services like Foursquare. It dropped from 17% in 2011 down to 11% in 2012. These services allow you to check-in online to your location. These services are declining in popularity, indicating that people care more about safety and privacy. Marketers can address this problem by offering rewards and contests. This will encourage people more to check-in.

If you’re still using the same strategy for social media marketing then it is time to create new strategies that take into account all the current trends. Instead of trying to implement the strategies yourself, it is better to leave this tedious task to a trusted social media marketing company.
